5th, 10 & 14th Colorado Governor. He served as Governor of Colorado from 1887 to 1889, 1897 to 1899, and in 1905. Adams County in Colorado is named after him. His son, Alva Blanchard Adams, served as a United States Senator. Alva, Oklahoma, Woods County - Its name honors Alva B. Adams, attorney for the Santa Fe Railroad, whose main east-west line serves the town. (Adams later became Governor of Colorado.)
