Arthur Walton was born to Samuel Walton and Lillie Davis in the Choctaw Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory on October 4, 1900 before Oklahoma became a state in 1907. His grand father Samuel Walton Senior was a Choctaw Freedman, a slave of the Choctaw Indians.

He served in WW1 with the 368th batallion 25th infantry in France from 1917 to 1922. His tour of duty included France with the expeditions Offensive Meuse Argonne forces in 1917 and 1918. The 25th was part of the historical Buffalo Soldiers. He enlisted in 1917 and served until his discharge in 1922. He was a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol in the Los Angeles area for 5 years.

In 1929 he married Mary Salena Rogers Iowa from Far Rockaway, New York in Los Angeles in 1929 and this union produced five children, four boys and one girl. Their only daughter Beverly Jean Walton preceded him in death in 1938. This marriage lasted for thirty years until his death in 1959. His wife Mary never married again and died in 2002 just three months from reaching her 100th birthday. He is buried at Paradise Memorial Park Cemetery in Santa Fe Springs, California.
