On October 18, 2011 when Ruth turned 100, she dressed in her new pink suit to attend her birthday gathering. Starting out with a family photo session, moving to an open house, and then sharing a celebration of life dinner with family members from all over the county and as far away as Japan, her day was extraordinary. After reaching her goal of 100 years, and the excitement of the day wore off, her health rapidly declined and she left this earthly life on November 4th to join her departed loved ones in Heaven.

Ruth was born in Evanston, Illinois to Vernon C. and Ruth H. Ward.

She lived most of her adult life in Zanesville, Ohio in the historic Ebenezer Buckingham House, with her husband of 57 years Reed D. Achauer, and raised four children.

Ruth is survived by Diana (Fred) St. John of Westerville, Ohio, Alyce-Anne (Phillip) Meadows of Phoenix, Arizona, Nancy (Thomas) Rykwalder of Tampa, Florida, and David Achauer (Gloria) of Ann Arbor, Michigan. A sister Marion Tangren lives in Austin, Minnesota. Mourning her will be grandchildren Jennifer, Brendan, Andrew, Jocelyn, Alyssa, Brett, Sean, Stephen, Eric, Valerie, and Peter and great grandchildren Tiffany, Adelaide, Tristan, Spencer, Olivia, Teagan, and Matthew.

Preceding her in death was granddaughter Emily.

Ruth was a member of Maranantha Bible Church in Zanesville, Ohio.

The family would like to thank Acclaim Hospice for all the loving care she received from them during her last days.

No funeral or memorial service will be held as Ruth has generously donated her body to the OSU Anatomy Department for the advancement of medical science and education.

A private gravesite service will be held at a future date.
