John M Barstad died on the battlefield (KIA) Oct 9 1918. The engagement terminated in a hand to hand fight and all the men took part. John Barstad is the first man from this local Eagles Lodge who has been killed in the country's service. Before he left in February 1917, he was employed on the Oscar Quist farm south of the city.
