George was the older of two sons born to George and Bertha Huttenstine Rumpilla. He entered the service from Pennsylvania, and served as a Corporal on the USS Wichita. He was wounded while fighting at Saipan. He was killed in action during the Battle of Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart for paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
George's family placed a cenotaph memorial marker for him in Alberts Cemetery, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
