Served in the U.S. Army in Company B, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division. Henry began service on June 4, 1942 as a private, earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was in foreign service from April 1944 until his death. He was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 79th Infantry Division during World War II. He also was awarded two Purple Hearts.

Hen was the third of eight children and the oldest son. He married Edna Williams on June 30, 1940 in Liberty Township, Montour County, Pennsylvania. They had no children.

Henry was originally buried at Normandy, France, but was reinterred here in 1948.
