Mary Ann was the daughter of William Campbell Lapsley and Sarah Rudman Alcom. She married Colonel William Bishop who was born in Virginia, but moved to Clark County, Missouri. He was a presidential elector for Abraham Lincoln in 1860. Col. Bishop commanded the Black Hawk Battalion for the Union during the Civil War, was a businessman in Alexandria, Missouri, became Port Surveyeor and Provost Marshal, and then State Treasurer in 1864. After Colonel Bishop died and was buried in Kohoka, Missouri, the family moved to Eustis, Florida, in 1885.
