US Congressman. He was an innkeeper in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, who led a company of Minutemen during the Revolutionary War. He served in the Massachusetts State Senate (1787-91) and was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1792-93, 1797-98). In 1799, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1807. After his last term, he retied from public service.
