He was the son of Charles & Mary (Crowder) Knighton.

On June 24, 1914 he married Grace B. Meek.

He worked as a stenographer for the Virginia Bridge & Iron Company in Roanoke. He also raised pigs & chickens to sell to restaurants to earn some extra money.

There is a family story regarding his pigs. His wife Grace had been canning some fruit, but it didn't turn out right & the fruit turned into alcohol. She dumped the cans in the backyard, the pigs ate it, and became intoxicated. Then Orville saw the pigs wobbling around in the back yard & was worried that they were dying. He eventually found out what the real problem was.

Orville & his son Jack were run off the road by another car, and Orville's lungs were damaged in the crash. He never fully recovered and while cleaning his basement, some coal dust got into his lungs & ultimately caused his death.

Children: Kathryn Knighton Whitten, Jack Keith Knighton, and Glenn Knighton.

Note: Orville was originally buried in Montvale, VA. His tombstone there listed his date of death as April 27th. However, his death certificate & new headstone list April 26th as the date of death. I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy.
