Como – Oct. 5 – Fred D. Gillette, a lifetime resident and one of the most respected citizens of our town, Summerhill, died Saturday morning, Oct. 1, 1932 after an illness of only a week with pneumonia and heart complications. Mr. Gillette was born Oct. 12, 1879, the son of the late Henry and Abilena Gillette. He was united in marriage Jan. 11, 1906 to Miss Mary Webster, who with a daughter, Miss Alice A. Gillette, survives him. He leaves also two sisters, Mrs. Aaron Breeds of West Homer and Miss Lena Gillette of Cortland, and two brothers, John Gillette of Cortland and Edward Gillette of Summerhill. The funeral was largely attended Monday at the East Summerhill Baptist Church of which Mr. Gillette had been a deacon for 27 years. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.O. Newton, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. W.S. Warren, of McGraw. The bearers were John Gillette, Edward Gillette, Charles Gillette, Aaron Breeds, Ivan Reed, and Lee Hinman. A profusion of flowers attested to the love and esteem in which Mr. Gillette was held. Interment was made in the West Homer cemetery. Mr. Gillette was active in the affairs of his town and at the time of his death was serving his third term as an assessor.
