MONKTON RIDGE – The sudden death of Mrs. Frank A. Miles Wednesday morning, December 1, came as a shock to her many friends in this vicinity. She had been in poor health for some time, but few realized her serious condition, until the end was near. Eliza Hazard, daughter of Oscar and Sarah M. Hazard, was born in Charlotte January 21, 1864. On June 21, 1892, she was united in marriage to Frank A. Miles of Monkton, and since then has made her home here. In the departure of Mrs. Miles, the town has met with an unspeakable loss. Of a charming personality and cheerful, unselfish disposition, she easily won and retained the love and esteem of all. As a lifelong member of the Friends' Church, she was ever earnest, conscientious and faithful. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Lee Russell of Ferrisburg, and a brother, G. M. Hazard, of Charlotte. The funeral services at the Friends' Church Friday morning at 11 o'clock were largely attended. The Rev. Edwin J. Meader of Burlington, assisted by the Rev. Ralph Knight, officiated. There were many beautiful flowers, among them being tokens of love from the Willing Workers and W.C.T.U. of which societies Mrs. Miles had been a member, also many tributes from relatives and friends. The bearers were: J. W. Miles, A. B. Miles, F. A. Miles, G. M. Hazard, Frank Thompson and Lee Russell. Interment was in the Friends' cemetery. Among those from out of town to attend the services were: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Miles of Utica, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Hazard and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Vliet of Charlotte, Mrs. Mitchel Lathrop and Mrs. Alba Lathrop of Bristol, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson and son, Lincoln, and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Williams, Ferrisburg.
