Levi Miles was born in Homer, New York in 1835 to Philo and Abilena Miles. He had at least nine siblings including Charles, Elizabeth, Miranda, Lucy, John, Columbus, Joseph, Philo and Rachel. Levi enlisted in Company E, New York 189th Infantry Regiment on 23 Sep 1864 and mustered out on 30 May 1865 at Washington, DC. He married Elvira Peters in New York and had one child, Albert in 1868. They moved to South Arm Township between 1870 and 1880. He died on September 6, 1891 in South Arm Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan.
