Hannah was born in England to Henry and Mary Hagen Miles. The family emigrated first to Montreal in 1832, then on to Vermont. She married John in Charlotte, Chittenden, Vermont July 4, 1851. They had a farm in Monkton.
Hannah traveled west to visit her sister-in-law Caroline Worth Miles in Mabel Minnesota in 1868. They both were recent widows and found comfort in each other. From a surviving letter written by Caroline, we know that Hannah was there after her parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary earlier in the year, sometime in 'the seventh month'. Hannah returned to Vermont, whereupon she was taken ill shortly afterward and died of heart disease. She left three sons of school age.
Her youngest son, Andrew, was found living with his aunt Sarah Miles Hazard of Charlotte, 1870 Census. Her middle, I did not find during this time, he may have been living with someone else, or at school. Her eldest, Miles James, it is known by another surviving letter of Miles', was sent to a Quaker boarding school in New York By 1875 Miles was in Kansas; his two younger brothers either came with him at that time, or soon thereafter. Miles later lived in Texas, sons Charles Curtis and Andrew Holmes, remained in Kansas.
