U.S. Congressman. Graduating from Dartmouth College New Hampshire, in 1880, he was correspondent of the Boston Advertiser, (1882-86) and chief editor, in 1888. He also was founder and chief editor of the Boston Evening Record. He was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1887-92) and elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Congresses, serving (1895-99). Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he returned to the management of his newspaper and was president of the Boston Union Trust Company until his death from pneumonia at age 47.
