Butch was born on May 27, 1947 in Clinton, OK to parents Vernon Fred Goodwin and Pauline Mildred Rust Goodwin. In 1965, he graduated from Carl Albert High School, where he excelled in sports, winning the James Prigmore Award for Outstanding Football player. In 1966, he married his high school sweetheart Cynthia Dennis. Butch was a member of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. His service awarded him the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his service in the military, Butch and Cynthia moved to Midwest City where they raised their two children, Lisa and Greg. Butch retired from a career in Aircraft Maintenance at Tinker Air Force Base in 1990.

Butch loved sports, particularly youth sports, coaching softball for many years. He was loved and appreciated by the children he coached for his dedication, guidance, patience, and support. He never missed a child, grandchild, or sibling’s game. Butch also loved being Papa to his two grandchildren, Lindsay and Hunter. Butch loved OU Sports, concerts, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and his gun collection.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents and son Christopher.

Butch is survived by daughter Lisa Goodman and husband Johnny of Midwest City; son Gregory Goodwin of McLoud; granddaughter Lindsay Vail of Gulfport, MS; grandson Hunter Goodwin of Harrah; brother Robert “Doug” Goodwin of Midwest City; brother Gary Goodwin and wife Jodi of Oklahoma City; Chris Goodwin of Midwest City; sister Cathy Goodwin and husband Pieter Zwemer of Midwest City; brother Joe Goodwin and wife Tami of Choctaw; and many nieces, nephews, stepchildren, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
