Three Oklahomans were listed Monday among the latest casualties of the fighting in Southeast Asia. Listed as killed in action was Army S-Sgt. Cecil A. Welman, husband of Mrs. Linda K. Welman of Lexington.
In addition, soldiers from Choctaw and Wewoka were listed by the Defense Department as dead from non-hostile causes. They were Pfc. Allen Jay Smith, 20, of Choctaw, and Pfc. Terry L. Deer, brother of Army Pfc Allen Jay Smith Spec. 4 Siemen C. Deer of Wewoka.
Smith was killed in the explosion of one of his own artillery shells Oct. 15. Smith. 20. was born in Oklahoma City and lived all his life in Choctaw. He was a 1968 graduate of Carl Albert High School whore he was a member of FFA. He was also a member of Crestview Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Ralph L. Bolon Oldsmobile Inc.
Services are pending with Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Ray Smith, of the home; a brother, Robert Melvin, of the home; three sisters, Charlene Sue and Donna Fay, both of the home, and Mrs. Sherry Ann Stirmers 5406 NW 23; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Clark, Choctaw; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bernice Smith, Midwest City, and his paternal grandfather, Artis Smith, Henryetta.
