FREEVILLE – Ethel B. Marquis, 84, of 193 Fall Creek Road, Freeville, died Tuesday at her home.
A native of West Homer, Mrs. Marquis lived in Freeville since 1936. She taught from 1922 to 1925 in the Slover Rural School District near Lake Como and later was a part-time postal clerk at the Freeville Post Office. She was a graduate of Homer High School and Oneonta Norman School.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Freeville and served on its administrative board. She was a former president of the Freeville United Methodist Women and served on the Area Church Refugee Committee of the town of Dryden. She was a member of the Dryden Senior Citizens and the Women's Republican Club of Ithaca.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, James O.; a daughter, Kathleen Moore of Sherburne; four sons, Kenneth, Kermit and Clarence, all of Freeville, and Clifford of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Lillian Vossler of Preble and Mildred Darling of Cortland; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, an aunt, and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Perkins Funeral Home, Dryden, the Rev. Christopher Evans officiating. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden.
Calling hours are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St.
