Richard E. Beane died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 following an accident near his home in Oro Valley, Arizona.

Dick was born to Catherine O. and John Beane in Buffalo, New York on July 12, 1942.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Barb Zamora Beane; his brother, James Beane (Barbara Brodhagen); favorite aunt, Mary Jane Pitz; mother-in-law, Betty Zamora; sister-in-law, Theresa Z. Zebrowski; brothers-in-law, Joe R. Zamora and Moe Zamora; nephews, James (Erin), Jason (Carisma Koenig), and John Beane, J. Andrew (Melissa) and Mark A. (DeAnne Zupancic) Zamora; nieces, Elizabeth (Gene) Hill and Melanie (Billy) Whiteside; and four grandnephews, two grandnieces, and many beloved cousins.

Dick was most recently Senior Principal Scientist-Geochemistry for BHPBilliton, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia and had previously taught at several universities. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Union College, Schenectady, New York; M.S. in Geology from the University of Arizona; and Ph.D. in geochemistry from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

Dick's joy and passion was in the teaching of his many students and colleagues in the field of geology and geochemistry both in academia and in the mining industry.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1100 a.m. on Monday, November 15, at Santa Catalina Parish, 13111 Oracle Rd., Catalina, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the American Diabetes Association, 6339 E. Speedway, Suite 103, Tucson, AZ, 85710 in the name of Richard (Dick) Beane.

Barb would like to thank everyone who offered prayers and support during her husband's last days, especially, Liz, Tony and Dom, Eleanor and Mike, Linda and Andy and Helen and Spencer.
