After three years of Army service in WWII (15 months in Europe), he returned to farming in the Cosby area, then moved to Kansas City in 1956 to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1987 as Director of Mail processing at the Bulk Mail Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was a faithful member of North Cross United Methodist Church and volunteered there, and with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and the Clay County Clothes Closet.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Florence, and daughters Janet Shepherd and her husband, Lewis, of Big Horn, Wyoming, Barbara Armstrong, and her husband, Scott, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Carol Stapley of Gladstone, Missouri. He also leaves three grandchildren, Christine Shepherd, Brad Armstrong, and Ryan Armstrong.
