Barbara Amelia McDonald, nee Herleth, age 66, of Kelly Springs Road, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 at MedWest Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Queens, New York, she was the daughter of the late Edward Robert Herleth, Jr. and Wanda Tomaszweski Herleth. She served as Vice President of Operations of Credit Suisse in New York City before retiring with her husband to Waynesville in 2001. She was an accomplished artist and volunteered her time with several local organizations, including the United Way of Waynesville. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Bethel Rural community Organization, and the Francis Mill Preservation Society.

She is survived by her husband of more than 15 years, Mike McDonald; her brothers, Walter Herleth and his wife, Jennifer, of Ireland and Joe Herleth of New Jersey; and one sister, Mary Herleth, also of New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 804 Sonoma Road, Waynesville. Reverend Dan Stiles and Reverend Claude McDonald will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Haywood Christian Ministries, 150 Branner Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28986; the United Way, P.O. Box 1139, Waynesville, NC 28786; Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 North Halsted Street, Suite 1, Chicago, IL 60642; or the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
