Patches was the niece of Fluffy and came from my cousin's farm too. She was a big, very street wise cat, and was always stropping about, and she was definitely in charge!
She had a very loud meow, and if you tried to have a lie in bed at the weekend, she would meow so loudly and scratch at the door, you just had to get up! If my husband was up first, he would send her to wake me, and she would jump on the bed and meow loudly at me. When it was her suppertime, she would run up the back of the chair and tap you on the head, and one day she really frightened by Mum by doing that, she nearly jumped out of her chair!
One day, Patches brought a whole chicken home! I don't know how she managed that, she had to jump up onto the gate and down into the garden, but there she was, dragging this whole chicken into the house! We never found out where she got it from, but someone lost their dinner that day! Patches would sit on the wall and look across the road to where my Mum lived and when she came out, she would jump down and meet her, meowing all the time. She was a very healthy cat, she only had one illness, when she developed a digestive problem which the vet said usually only Alsation dogs had! Trust Patches to be different!
Patches was with us for 19 years, until she developed kidney problems, I would have to get up in the night to fill her water and milk bowls, as she drank so much. Her meowing got so pitiful to hear. We knew that she would not get better, so although she was still eating and liked to sit in the sun, the vet said it was distressing her wondering why she had to drink so much, so we had to make the decision to have her put to sleep. She was a lovely cat, and so big and bold, and will always be remembered with love. Rest with your sisters dear Patches.
