After enlistment into the Combat Battalion [C.B. – Seabees] of the United States Navy at Chico in the summer of 1943, Morris Colbert was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Base for additional training and later stationed at Port Hueneme, California.

Chico Enterprise, Monday, January 3, 1944, pg 7. Durham Boys In the Service: "Durham – Morris Colbert, SB 2/c surprised his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Colbert and two brothers with a New Year's visit and returned by yesterday to Camp Hueneme near Hollywood where he is stationed with a construction squadron of the U.S. Navy."

Chico Enterprise, Monday, February 14, 1944, pg 7. Durham Boys In the Service: "Durham – Morris Colbert came from Fort Hueneme for a recent visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Colbert and his brothers. He is in the construction battalion of the Seabees."

Morris saw considerable territory while with the Seabees at Kwajalein and Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands and while operating the heavy equipment used to help build runways for the B-29's that flew to Japan from the Marianas. He was discharged at Oakland, California in the fall of 1945 and was engaged in the appliance repair and hardware business in civilian life.
