Wilke was one of a set of triplets with his brothers, Leroy and Wilson. He married Liddie (Lida, Lydia) Kirk on March 30, 1907 at Coon Rapids, Iowa. One known child was born to Wilkie and Liddie; Adeline Anna Colbert, born Jan. 13, 1908 at Coon Rapids, Iowa (delayed birth record). Wilkie suffered a debilitating sunstroke about 1913 from which he never recovered and which ultimately caused his death.
