They say that if you have a pet in your life you will have about eight meaningful relationships with them. Eight meaningful relationships…eight heart breaking partings.

Tobie was with me fifteen years. He was no silent partner. His persistence in always being close is what I loved best about him. Other friendships came and went but Tobie was always there. He asked nothing in return and always gave more than he got. His love was a honest love.

If I got sick he was at my side. If I was down he was at my side. When I came home he was waiting in the window for me. His love came at no price.

When my Father came to live with me the last year of his life Tobie became my Dad's best friend. He laid next to him and comforted my Dad when he was in pain and lonely.

When my Dad died Tobie never left his side. For several hours while we waited for the funeral home to come Tobie laid right up against my Dad. Tobie knew my Dad was gone but he was standing guard.

I had fifteen wonderful years with my friend. We saw each other through a lot. I have adopted three cats that look just like him. Where he stood in my life, it has taken three to even come close to the relationship we had.

I have to believe that if we are allowed to have these deep relationships with our fur friends that we will see them again.

God is not going to take something so precious and meaningful away for eternity. I believe Tobie had a spirit. That spirit is somewhere waiting for a friendly face to come over a bridge and be with him again. In some ways I do think our fur babies are angelic. Sent to us by a loving God, to comfort and befriend us.

The loss of Tobie was so hard it took almost a year to put him on Find a Grave. I miss him so very much. He was cremated and I have his ashes. He also has a head stone in my garden.

He died from Kidney Failure. I fed him only the best food and watched his health closely. It did not matter it still took his life.

My love for my human and hers for me, I have planted the memories of our life together in her heart. She will find them there when I am gone and they will comfort her.

His paw print will forever be in my heart.
