Harry L. Fleck son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester L. Fleck, Thirteenth Ave., Altoona, enlisted in the Navy one day after his 17th birthday in 1928.

He married the former Gertrude Dixon of Norfolk, VA, and had two children, Barbara Ann and Earnest Lloyd, living with their mother in Norfolk.

*September-1942 Chief Machinist's Mate Fleck was stationed somewhere in the Pacific battle zones where he was reported "missing in action" while in performance of his duty. He was aged 30.

December-1945 Family was notified that he was presumed to be dead. It was learned that he was aboard the USS Quincy, which was sunk, along with the USS Vincennes and USS Astoria, off New Guinea.

He is survived by his wife and children. His father Harry, one sister, Mrs. George Hoover(Marion G.), and F1/C Harold Fleck serving in the Navy. His mother Helen Stewart Fleck died in Nov. 1944.

Harry's wife passed January 18, 1991 in San Diego at age 73. She was born Feb. 19, 1917 in Norfolk, VA and appears to have married again to Mr. Blanchard and was the mother of four additional children. A daughter Virgina Blanchard was born 2/27/1948 and died 8/24/1949 in San Diego, California.
