Sam was an Old English Sheepdog born on a farm in rural Kansas and ended up being sent to Massachusetts.

She was the last of the litter to be sold and my parents couldn't resist the four month old puppy.

Sam became an immediate member of the family and became very protective. Sam had the personality of a little mother, she knew immediately where you were at all times and if she saw you doing anything wrong, or what she deemed wrong, she would sit in front of you and bark until an adult came to see what was wrong.

Sam enjoyed her independence when we moved to New Hampshire and would walk to friends houses on the street until she was sent back home.

In October 1989 Sam was accidentally run over by a van after she crawled under the van and laid down under the back wheel where no one could see her. She suffered only a hairline fracture in her hip, but in December she slipped on ice and broke her hip.

After that Sam had problems getting up, and would mostly lay around in our beds for the rest of her life.

She was buried in Middleboro, near her favorite running area of Cape Cod.
