Pop Singer. She scored a number one smash hit in 1982 with the power pop ballad "Gloria." The Grammy-nominated song stayed on the Billboard charts for 36 weeks peaking at number 2 and remains a karaoke favorite around the world. Branigan's other popular singles include "Solitaire," "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You?," "The Power of Love," "Spanish Eddie," "Self-Control," "Imagination." and "Inspiration" from the soundtrack to "Flashdance" (1983). Branigan was born in Mount Kisco, New York and grew up in Armonk in Westchester County. A vocalist with a five-and-a-half octave range, she was a touring backup singer for Leonard Cohen before launching her solo career in the late 1970s. She also made occasional appearances in films and television and, in 2002 received excellent reviews for playing Janis Joplin in the off-Broadway musical "Love, Janis."
