Believed to be son of Samuel Burkhart and Margaret Clapper having been born about 1841. He would then also be the grandson of Joseph and Margaretta Birk Burkhart.
The family later moved to Pine, Indiana County, PA where he met his wife, Margaret Jane Hazlett. They had children and after George Burkhart passed, his widow married George McClellen Wissinger and lived in Altoona with the family.
