Harold Ralph Higley was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away peacefully on the evening of April 8 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 83 years old.
Harold was born in Logan, Utah to Clifford Higley and Clara Belle Mayne and grew up near Strevell, Idaho. He served in Pearl Harbor and Kaneohe Bay with the U.S. Navy from 1943 - 1946. After marrying Shirley Rich in 1947, they settled to raise their family in Salt Lake City, where he worked until retirement for Western Electric. Harold and Shirley loved to travel in their motorhome throughout the US and Mexico. He enjoyed boating and fishing, and loved spending time with family. Harold was known for being able to fix anything with only a volt-meter and his toolbox. He was happiest tinkering in his garage either at home or in Bear Lake where they spent most of their summers. Harold was loved by those who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 60 years. He is also survived by his children; Barbara Cowan, Karen Wood, Harold Ralph Higley Jr. and Shauna Stevens. He took great joy in his 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Viewing will be held Saturday, April 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, with a Graveside Service to follow at Elysian Burial Gardens at 12:30 p.m.
