Rev. Wall was born in East Norwegian Township, Pottsville, in Schuykill County, PA in 1843 to Jane Dormer and Robert Wall. His parents and three oldest sisters immigrated from Ireland in the 1830s. His siblings included:

Catherine Wall Lawler; Robert Wall jr.; John Wall; James Wall; Joseph Wall,Julia Wall Sullivan and baby Annie who didn't survive.
He was ordained a priest in 1871 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rev. Lawrence J. Wall was appointed First Assistant at St. Dominic's Church in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia on June 22d, 1872, and succeeded to the rectorship, October 18th, 1876. He enlarged the pastoral residence, laid out the cemetery, established a convent for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters, built a parochial school building and greatly improved the church. He remained at St. Dominic's until his death in 1926. He is buried at the Church Cemetery.
Both his nephew, Rev. Patrick F. Fogarty, and grand nephew, Rev. James R. Fogarty, followed him into the priesthood.
Newspaper accounts of the era indicate that Rev. Wall was a well known and popular priest of the era. In addition St. Katherine Drexel mentioned that Rev. Wall was one of the people who influenced her into entering the convent.
