Funeral services for Bobby Lewis Tarter, 68, of Jeffersonville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Scott Funeral Home's Main Street Chapel, with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. He died Monday, June 30, 2008, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

He was born in Russell Springs, Ky., a retired automotive machinist for B & R Speed Shop and a former racecar owner and builder of car 69 since the 1960's.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Tarter; a son, Robert Tarter, Jeffersonville; a daughter, Patricia Tarter, Jeffersonville; a brother, Kenneth Tarter and his wife, Wanda, Charlestown; a sister, Ida Schoolcraft and her husband Gary, Salem; two grandchildren, Justin Tarter and Anna Tarter, both of Jeffersonville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 2 and from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
