Richard the son of Mr and Mrs Darel Aday, the loving husband of Jennifer F. Aday and father of Richard D. Aday all of Portland OR enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 29 1966 in Portland OR.

In Vietnam Pfc Aday was serving with Company A,1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During Phase III of Operation Prairie in Quang Tri Province, after spending the night in their defensive positions Company A moved forward on the attack running into a heavily armed and well deployed enemy force. The Marines were hit with a volley of 60 mm mortar fire, RPG Grenades and small arms fire from the NVA. The battle lasted several hours with five men from Company A being killed in the action. One of the casualties was PFC Aday who was killed as a result of enemy gunshot wounds to his head and back during the fire fight.
