When Ronald arrived in Vietnam 6 March 1967, he was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Badger Tooth when they encountered hostile forces. Ronald died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire.
Survived by his parents, Donald C and Virginia Mary D Allen and a brother; Thomas Hugh Allen, all of Rural Route #3, Winona, MN and his grandparents; Hugh M and Mabel Christine Dunn.
