She was born in Chesterfield County and was the daughter of the late Samuel Lee and Hattie Smothers Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, John L. Black Sr. and John "Lynn" Black Jr. Also preceded in death are brothers Roland, Howard, Bill, Willis Lucas; sisters Janie Joyner, Frances Hilton, Dorthy Byrd and a host of nieces and nephews.
While being retired from Briar Creek Baptist Church Child Development Center, she loved spending her days outside gardening and on her tractor.
She will be missed most by all those who loved her. She inspired many by her strength and love for the Lord.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 8th, from 7-9 PM at Heritage Funeral Home-Weddintong Chapel; with Funeral Service on Thursday at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel; burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Online guestbook at www.heritagecares.com.
