Mr. Collins , 77, of Charlotte, died September 26, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital. A service to celebrate his life will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church with Reverends Barry Shearer, Steven Stinson and Doctor Dan Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Collins was born in Asheville, NC, son of the late Rommie Ace and Hallie Jacobs Collins . He was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church, member of Barry Shearer Sunday School Class, and served in many offices of the church. He was a graduate of Central High School and the College of Hard Knocks with honors. Mr. Collins was participating in the production of the movie, "Asylum" and had been associated with the movie industry for 25 years. He was formerly with P.I.E., and was a member and Steward with Teamster Local #71.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Jo ''B.J." Collins ; sons, Bobby Collins and wife, Trista of Charlotte, Darrell Collins and wife, Donna of Mint Hill, NC, and Kenny Collins of Charlotte; grandchildren, Zak Collins and wife, Alison of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jeremy Collins of Charlotte, Jon Collins and wife, Jennifer of Indian Trail, NC, Kristin Collins and Jessica Collins of Mint Hill, NC, Matt Collins , Cody Collins , Austin Finley, Carson Collins , Brianna Collins , and Hunter Collins , all of Charlotte; great grandchildren, Taylor Collins and twins, Ashley and Madison Collins , all of Indian Trail; sisters, Joyce Kidd of Concord, NC and Rachel Dutton of Orange, VA. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Collins of Charlotte. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and will be missed by all.
