Mr. Glenn Garrison Rhodes , Sr., age 86, of Matthews, NC, died December 30, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, at Idlewild Baptist Church with Reverends Lea Clower and Keith Whitener officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.
Mr. Rhodes was born August 7, 1916 in Union County, NC, son of the late Arthur Marshall and Ocie Foard Rhodes . He was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church, was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Wingate College, was an active supporter of the Matthews Fire Department and a long time member of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Rhodes retired as Chairman of the Board of Lance Inc. and had served as past president of the Biscuit and Cracker Manufacturers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Rhodes ; sons, Ed Rhodes and wife Jane of Franklinville, NC and Dave Rhodes and wife Robin of Millers Creek, NC; daughters, Jeane Clower and husband Lea of Chattanooga, TN and Jan R. Penny and Joanne Rhodes , both of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Sue Deming of Charlotte, and Louise Cox of Matthews, NC; brothers, Vance Rhodes , Dick Rhodes , and Keith Rhodes , all of Charlotte; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Florence Erwin Rhodes and a son, Glenn Garrison "Gary" Rhodes Jr.
Glenn touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
