Matthew was the son of Charles and Kathy Gilbert. He also has an older brother Ryan. Matthew was a miracle child. When he was born they only gave him 24 hours to live, he surpassed that by over 13 years. Because of Matthew and his parents, other parents in Indiana were able to receive help from the state in caring for their handicapped children without losing all that they owned. Matthew was a joy to care for and his laughter was contagious. He is sorely missed by his family and friends and by all of the nurses who took care of him.
