Miss Philecta Reinhardt , of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Presbyterian Hospital.

Miss Reinhardt , the daughter of Willie Brown and John Forney Reinhardt , was born February 26, 1918 at the family home, Mt. Welcome, in Lincoln County. She attended Rock Springs High School and Asheville Teachers College, and received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN and her Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her teaching career began in the Valdese, NC public schools and spanned 37 years of teaching English at Central and Garinger High Schools in Charlotte. She was awarded a Fulbright Teacher exchange Fellowship in 1955 and taught in Exerter, England.

Miss Reinhardt joined the Navy during World War II and was commissioned Lieutenant Junior Grade. After training as a WAVE at Smith College, she rose to the rank of Lieutenant. She served in the Navy's Cryptography section in Washington, DC and later as an educational counselor at Navy hospitals in Jacksonville, FL and Dublin, GA. Following her retirement form active duty in 1946, she continued as a member of the Naval Reserve Unit until her retirement.

Miss Reinhardt was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church. She was a volunteer for various community groups including Crisis Assistance Ministry, Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary, International House, and Tutorials for Foreign Students.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 5, 1999 at St. Martin's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Janet Waltrous officiating. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 6, in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lincoln County, N.C. The family will receive friends at the Harry and Bryant Chapel, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, from 7:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Cecil Mabry of Atlanta, GA; her niece, Cecile Mabry, and her husband, Dow Bailey of Columbia, SC; her nephew, John R. Mabry, and his wife, Betsy Mabry of Atlanta, GA; grandnieces and grandnephews, Kirk, Christian, and Louise Bailey, and Amanda Yanez, Elizabeth, and John Franklin Mabry.

Memorials may be made to The Philecta Reinhardt Scholarship Fund, Garinger High School, 1100 Eastway Drive, Charlotte, NC 28205 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
