Alonzo Pratt Clough was born in Cossayuna, New York, November 1, 1857, the son of Thomas and Harriet (Pratt) Clough. He was the second of 8 children.

In 1884, he married Mary Jerusha Higbee, the daughter of Frederick and Electa (Walston) Higbee, and they had 2 sons and a daughter born in Kansas.

Alonzo, Mary and their family came back to Vermont, buying a farm in Monkton on Silver Street. Not long after, in 1896, Mary succumbed to heart disease.

Alonzo and his boys continued to work the farm and in 1904 he married Cora Dings, daughter of Jacob and Julia Ann (Crocker) Dings. Cora became as a mother to Alonzo's children.

Alonzo died August 16, 1920 at his home on Silver Street, leaving his 2nd wife, Cora, and two sons, Obed and Henry, and daughter, Harriet.
