Former GOP Supervisor Jason C. Prior Succumbs
Jason C. Prior, a former 10th ward Republican county supervisor and veteran of the battles of the Marne, St.Mihiel and the Argonne in World War I, died yesterday in the Albany Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mr. Prior was 61. He had been employed for 82 [sic] years by the General Electric Co. before his disability retirement in 1950. He was a production clerk when retired.
Elected to the county board in 1941, Mr. Prior defeated Democrat Stephen J. McGivney. He was chairman of the health and sanitation committee during his two terms, ending in 1945. He was succeeded by Republican Arthur H. Wright, now assistant executive officer of the county civil service commission.
His native state, Vermont, cited Mr. Prior for "distinguished service" in France from March 29, 1916, until May 30, 1919, with Troop A, the 2nd cavalry. He was discharged a staff sergeant and at his death was a member of Rotterdam Post 1091, American Legion.
He rose to become a noble grand in Reliance Lodge, IOOF.
Mr. Prior had lived in Schenectady until two years ago, when he moved to Rotterdam.
Death came after several weeks' illness.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Norman F. Thomas of Bellevue Reformed Church at 2 p.m. Monday from the R. R. Bond funeral home at Broadway and Guilderland avenue.
Interment will follow in Viewland cemetery.
Friends and members of the legion post and lodge may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. tomorrow.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lucia Parker Prior of 2009 Robinwood avenue, Rotterdam; a son, George Prior of San Francisco; and six sisters, Mrs. Della Kenyon and Mrs. Hubert Lawrence of Burlington, Vt.; Mrs. Laura Redmond of Williston, Vt.; Mrs. Walter Yantz of Vergennes, Vt.; Mrs. George Kennedy of Essex Junction, Vt.; and Mrs. Harold Bard [sic] of Mt. Dora, Fla.
