Mrs. Kirby went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 31, 2006. Born May 24, 1910 in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry G. Crain and Alice Harrison Holtzclaw Crain. She married John Lee Kirby on April 27, 1929 in Greer, SC and moved to Charlotte, where they raised their family. Mrs. Kirby had been a resident of Liberty Nursing and Rehab Center for the past three years.
The Service to Celebrate the Life of Jessie Crain Kirby will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 3, 2006 at McEwen Funeral Service - Charlotte Chapel with Chaplain Shelly Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
She is survived by a son, Paul D. Kirby ; two daughters-in-law, Nancy Kirby Aldridge and Aloma Kirby ; five grandchildren, Paul D. Kirby , Jr. and his wife, Connie, Vickie Kirby Stamey and her husband, Garry, John W. Kirby , Glenn E. Kirby , Jr. and Dennis Ray Kirby , Jr. and his wife, Bonnie; eight great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren (Noah Samey that little boy as she called him). Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Harold Eugene Kirby, Dennis Ray (Jack) Kirby Sr. and Glenn Edward Kirby SR.; two brothers, Fred Crain and Lewis Crain; two sisters, Clara May Holtzclaw Veal and Mary Crain Suddeth and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Jane Dulin Kiby.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of Liberty and Hospice for their compassionate care and Betty Hartsell for being a wonderful roommate and friend.
