LAWTON — A private memorial service was held Thursday morning at Fort Sill for a Lawton soldier who was killed Sunday in Afghanistan. Keith Pannell, spokesman for Fort Sill, said soldiers in the 214th Fire Brigade held the memorial at 10 a.m. Thursday to remember 2nd Lt. Tobias C. Alexander, 30, who died from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked in Tarin Kowt with a roadside bomb. Alexander was with the 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery, 214th Fires Brigade at Fort Sill. Pannell said he was assigned to the Security Force Advisory Teams, who are responsible for the training of Afghanistan's national security forces. He said the private service Thursday was a way for "soldiers to pay their respects." Members of the 214th also remembered Capt. Jesse A. Ozbat, 28, of Prince George, Va., who was killed in the attack with Alexander.

Toby was born June 8, 1981, in Wesel, Germany, to William F. and Heike Gˆtze Alexander. He lived in Germany until the age of 11 and moved to the Lawton area in 1992. He was a 1999 graduate of Elgin High School. He married Amanda Barber on Feb. 3, 2011, in Lawton. He was a graduate of Cameron University through the ROTC program with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. He enjoyed many things in life but particularly enjoyed being at the lake.
