Dorothy Jean (Weaver) Lance 1930 - 2005

NEODESHA - Dorothy Jean Lance, 66, a resident of Basehor, formerly of Neodesha, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at her home. She was born in Neodesha Feb. 17, 1930, the daughter of Thomas and Flossie Nichols Weaver. She attended North Lawn Elementary and Neodesha High School.

On June 21, 1948, she married Calvin L. Lance in Independence. The couple lived in Fredonia then moved to Neodesha to raise their first two children. In 1970, they moved to Buckner, Mo., where they raised their third child.

She devoted most of her time to her children, leading Girl and Boy Scout troops, being room mother at school, chaperoning dances for Neodesha teen-agers and becoming an expert shopper. In later years, she spent time breaking the barriers about people with disabilities to ensure that daughter Denise obtained the proper education.

Survivors include three children, Cindy Dilley, Basehor; Dale Lance, LaPorte, Texas; Denise Lance, Basehor; three grandchildren; three great-grandsons; four sisters, Betty Lance, Independence, Mo., Susan Romig, Independence, Kan., Florence Bressie, Neodesha, Linda Weaver, Garden City; and two brothers, Tommy Weaver, Independence, Kan., Jack Weaver, Neodesha.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three infant/toddler siblings and her husband.

Service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Neodesha Nazarene Church, the Rev. Dave Cheshier officiating. Burial will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5 to 7 this evening at Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia.

A memorial has been established in her name with the Kansas City Hospice and may be left with the funeral home, 510 N. Seventh, P.O. Box 168, Fredonia, KS 66736.
