He attended elementary school at St. Joseph School, Sheffield, Alabama and graduated from St. Bernard High School, Cullman, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, May, 1942-February, 1946, and in the U.S. Navy, November, 1952-1965. He is the father of a son born December 4, 1948 and a daughter born May 21, 1958. He has a stepson named Thomas. He played the violin. Cause of death: cardiopulmonary arrest due to thromboembolism. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6 p.m., with rosary at 7:30 p.m.
He died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Birmingham.
He was a native of Colbert County, retired from the Navy, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Beckman, Los Angeles; daughter, Miss Ellen Beckman, El Toro, Calif.; brother, Dr. Paul H. Beckman, Tuscumbia; sisters, Sister Cornelia Beckman, Tuscumbia, Mrs. Margaret Geise, Clark, South Dakota, Sister Mary Vincent Beckman, Birmingham.
