Arnold is the fourth child and second son of seven children (2 males, 5 females, 2 of whom were stillborn). He was baptized 31 July 1921 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He attended elementary school at St. Joseph School, Sheffield, Alabama and graduated from St. Bernard High School, Cullman, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, May, 1942-February, 1946, and in the U.S. Navy, November, 1952-1965. He is the father of a son born December 4, 1948 and a daughter born May 21, 1958. He has a stepson named Thomas. He played the violin. Cause of death: cardiopulmonary arrest due to thromboembolism. The funeral for Arnold Francis Beckman, 63, 5000 Sutherland, Mt. Olive, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church, Tuscumbia, with Father Edward Markey officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6 p.m., with rosary at 7:30 p.m.

He died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Birmingham.

He was a native of Colbert County, retired from the Navy, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his son, Thomas Beckman, Los Angeles; daughter, Miss Ellen Beckman, El Toro, Calif.; brother, Dr. Paul H. Beckman, Tuscumbia; sisters, Sister Cornelia Beckman, Tuscumbia, Mrs. Margaret Geise, Clark, South Dakota, Sister Mary Vincent Beckman, Birmingham.

Bearers will be Carl Thompson, Paul Joly, John David Malone, Charles Colagross, Edward Gusmus, and Charles Wade.
