James C. Bechtel, 77, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Roaring Spring, died Saturday after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late James R. and Florence (Yingling) Bechtel.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Delozier (husband, Gary) of Glendale, Ariz.; a son, Richard (wife, Anita Angle) of Goodyear, Ariz.; a grandson, Craig of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers: D. Max of Lakewood, Ohio, Ronald G. of Chantilly, Va., and Kenneth W. of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; three sisters: Donna E. Myers of Hollidaysburg and Mary Lee Green and Margaret A. Querry, both of Roaring Spring; and many nieces and nephews.

He was a former member of Bare Memorial Church of God.

Mr. Bechtel was a 1949 graduate of Roaring Spring High School.

Mr. Bechtel was employed by Appleton Papers, Roaring Spring, and as a superintendent of highways for PennDOT in Hollidaysburg. He retired as street superintendent of highways for the City of Altoona.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Bare Memorial Church of God with the receiving of friends and family at 10 a.m. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.

Arrangements are by Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated in Mr. Bechtel's name to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Blair County Home Nursing Agency Hospice or the Jimmy V. Foundation.
