Dr. Lloyd R. Ayers, 88, Box 178, Hollidaysburg RD 2, died Sunday morning, August 1, 1999, at Altoona Hospital.
He was born April 21, 1911, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late W. Roy and Agnes (Roberts) Ayers.
He was married twice. First he married Lois R. Burket. She died in 1981. Then he married Imelda (Frederick) Koeck in 1983 in Hollidaysbur
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg.
Dr. Ayers retired as a physician practicing internal medicine and specializing in pulmonary diseases in 1992, after 57 years of service. He opened his office for the practice of medicine in Hollidaysburg in 1945. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree, studying science and medicine in 1934. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1935.
Dr. Ayers was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving from 1939 to 1945. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until 1962. He was honored by the Blair County Medical Society in 1985 for 50 years of medical service.
He enjoyed gardening, outdoors and traveling.
Dr. Ayers was a member of American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Blair County Medical Society. He was a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of Juniata Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite and Jaffa Temple.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Nancy Hopkins of Newark, Del.; a stepdaughter, Lisa Broadrick of Altoona; two sons: Thomas of
Larchmont, NY, and James of Spotsylvania, VA; four stepsons: Stephen and Gary Koeck, both of Altoona, Kevin Koeck of Claysburg and Mark Koeck of Boston; a stepbrother, Millard Fillmore of Leesburg, FL; two stepsisters: Jean Cikoski of Zelienople and Margaret Cohen of Albany, GA; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
AYERS - The funeral of Dr. Lloyd R. Ayers, Box 178 Hollidaysburg RD 2, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Scott Custead officiating.
Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stevens Mortuary Inc.
Dr. Ayers served on the staff of Altoona Hospital, the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona, the former Hollidaysburg State hospital and the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Dr. Ayers also enjoyed flying and reading.
