Born in a log cabin and the oldest of 10 children, Catherine was a granddaughter of Henrey Hawker and also Philip Kehl, early pioneers of Austin. She attended school in a one room school house through 8th grade and graduated with honors from Delta High School in 1935. And then she attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.
In 1936 she married Harold G. Anderson and had 4 children, the first dying at a young age, the last born after moving to California.
In California Catherine became a nurse and continued to care for new borns in the Mercy Hospital nursery.
Later in life, she married Gene Marsh, a rancher in northern California. When he passed, she moved back to Sacramento to live with her daughters.
