JAMES WILLIAM - 77, of Helenwood, passed away on Saturday, July 13, at Scott County Hospital following a lingering illness. He was the son of the late Rev. MAYNARD and DELLA HUMPHREY JEFFERS, and was also preceded in death by two sisters: CHRISTINE WALKER and MARY HELEN WALKER; and two infant brothers. Mr. JEFFERS was a member of the Low Gap Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, church clerk, and Sunday School teacher for many years. He worked in the Scott County School System for forty years and was an avid fox hunter for many years. Survivors included his wife of 53 years, FAYE ROSE JEFFERS, two daughters; PEGGY CROSS of Helenwood, and PATRICIA TERRY and husband, DANNY of Helenwood; two sons, GERALD JEFFERS and wife CATHY of Allardt, and RONNIE JEFFERS and wife PAM of Hurricane, W. Va.; two sisters, VIVIAN BOWLING and husband BILL of Oneida, and ELIZABETH FREELS and husband DALE of Wartburg; one brother, CLAUDE JEFFERS and wife IRIS of Helenwood; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the West-Murley Funeral Home chapel on Monday, July 15, at 8 p.m., with Rev. DAVID WALKER and Rev. JOE BLEVINS officiating.
