Michael Frankly Victim New Imlay City.
Michael Dean Franklin, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pershing Franklin, was killed instantly about 2:50 Sunday afternoon when his bicycle collided with an automobile on M-53, 1 1/2 miles south of Imlay City. The Lapeer County Sheriff's Department said the car was driven by Bernard Joseph Sullivan, 39, of 1240 Van Dyke Road, Bad Axe.
The boy lived at 1872 Van Dyke Road, Imlay City, and was a third grader in Imlay City Intermediate School. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Gordon Bristol, Imlay City, Lapeer County Medical Examiner.
Mr. Sullivan told the sheriff's department that the boy, on his bicycle, turned in front of his car when he was driving south on M-53. He said he could not break his car fast enough to avoid hitting the child. Mr. Sullivan was not held.
Michael was born in Yale on December 7, 1956. He is survived by his parents, a brother Jerry Dale; a sister, Mrs. Diana Scott, all of Imlay City, and a grandfather, Richard Franklin, from Washington state.
Remains are in the Muir Brothers Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. The Reverand D.C. Warner, pastor of Church of the Nazarene in Imlay City, will officiate. Burial will be in Imlay City Township Cemetery.
