Black, Maxine G. (Paquette) Vassar, Michigan Maxine G. Black, age 88 years, passed away August 16, 2008 at Tuscola Medical Care Facility. She was born on June 21, 1920 in Juniata Township to the late Chrissie and Izora (Cole) Esckelson. Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church in Vassar and was employed as a cook for Vassar Public Schools for 15 years. On May 10, 1941, she married Raymond J. Paquette and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1992. She then married Stanley E. Black on November 12, 1994 and he preceded her in death on February 2, 1996. Survivors include 3 children: Gloria J. (Clayton) Burley, Judy M. Paquette and Donald R. (Janice) Paquette, 11 grandchildren: Susan (Sidney) Howard, Tina (Mark) Bender, Tammie Burley, Lindalee Paquette, Angelique (Richard) Milliard, Jessica Paquette, Kathleen (Rick) Ryan, Joseph (Nan) Ward, David (Tami) Ward, Matthew (Kris) Paquette and Kimberly (Scott) Wegrzyn, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers: Max (Betty), Elbert, Lee (Barb) and Dick (Thelma) Esckelson, a sister-in-law, Hettie Esckelson, a brother-in-law, Bob Pomerville, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond John Paquette, 2 brothers: Larry and Leon and 2 sisters: Irene and Grace. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Vassar. Rev. David Somers will officiate. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Friends may call at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St., Vassar, on Tuesday from 1-9 p.m. She will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Camp Fund, First United Methodist Church Camp Fund, Alzheimer's and Related Disorders or a charity of the donor's choice.
